Jasper gripped a crooked stick
Split at both ends
For hands to hold
Laughter followed him
All the day long
As he searched
For a watering hole
**********
Adults and children alike
How they’d giggle
Watching this old man
And his limb
Tossing out quips
Of indignation
But Jasper ignored all of them
**********
Everyone left the dessert one day
Except one young, little lad
For he had no one
Yes, he had lost all
Since the death of his mom and dad
**********
Jasper had heart
And took the boy in
Telling him he would not thirst
With a limb of his own
The boy would divine
To find water
And in it – rebirth
Brilliant!
