Has this ever happened… a poem

FEAR

Sudden awareness of movement in the peripheral vision of my eye

A glistening spectral of unseemly light whose subtle movement proved its discovery

Flinching in hasty fear

Drawn by unknown forces, yet polarized

Gooseflesh plays across my entire being in expectation and dread

Fight or flight from the unknown menace

A question that plays over and over inside my terrorized brain

Confrontation inevitable and unavoidable

Exodus too powerful a pull to be ignored

Spellbound by the mysterious tentacles of the surreal

Forever lost in the abyss should it grasp

Praying, praying for strength and fortitude

Cemented in place

The only sound my heartbeat’s staccato and interminable ringing in my ears

Tears cascade down my cheeks from eyes unblinking

Turn, turn to meet the uninvited silhouette of nightmare

Weakness, dizziness, hopelessness work in concert to their end

Specs and flashes of lightning dance in all directions

I glance as I succumb to its bondage

Tis nothing

Time to fly…a song

HANDS ON THE CLOCK

By the time you read this letter

I’ll be in Mobile

On a flight headed for the west coast

We tried to make it work…no deal

And in my fondest memory

Is the vision of your smile

That’s what I will miss the most

Every passing mile

When you see a plane in the sky

Will you think of me…

The fragrance of a passerby

Will you turn to see…

And at the end of the day

It didn’t matter much anyway, ay, ay…

Hands on the clock just keep on ticking by…

Someday you’ll understand and then you’ll fly

They were so in love one time

Many years ago

But life it just crept right on by

And the next thing that you know

Kids are all grown up and gone

Now there’s loneliness at home

And the one thing she thought she’d never do

Sent her flying off alone

When you see a plane in the sky

Will you think of me…

The fragrance of a passerby

Will you turn to see…

And at the end of the day

It didn’t matter much anyway, ay, ay…

Hands on the clock just keep on ticking by…

Someday you’ll understand and then you’ll fly

Life is short enough

So, make sure that it matters

If you don’t find a love

Then you should just move on

And when it gets too loud inside

Then sweep away the tatters

Buy a ticket for an airplane

Into the great beyond

When you see a plane in the sky

Will you think of me…

The fragrance of a passerby

Will you turn to see…

And at the end of the day

It didn’t matter much anyway, ay, ay…

Hands on the clock just keep on ticking by…

Someday you’ll understand and then you’ll fly

By the time you read this letter

I’ll be in Mobile……….

Deeply broken heart… a song

UNTIL THE NEXT TIME

Until the next time

When I see you

I will dry the tears running down my face

Just like I always do

Until the next time

We meet again

I will hold you in my broken heart

Until the very end

Until the next time

Until my eyes

Fall upon your precious face

Lifting me up high

Until the next time

I’ll say a prayer

Maybe God will answer me

And I will know He cares

Until the next time…

Until the next time…

When I see you

Until the next time

Life will go on

Not a day will ever pass me by

That you’re not in my thoughts

Until the next time

My world amiss

I can only make through the day

Dreaming of your kiss

Until the next time

Until my eyes

Fall upon your precious face

Lifting me up high

Until the next time

I’ll say a prayer

Maybe God will answer me

And I will know He cares

Until the next time…

Until the next time…

When I see you

The years are slowly passing by

Yeah, each and everyday

Closer still to you and I

Since you went away

As I kneel here one more time

Tears falling on this grave

The flowers drop out of my hand

And from my heart I say

Until the next time

Until my eyes

Fall upon your precious face

Lifting me up high

Until the next time

I’ll say a prayer

Maybe God will answer me

And I will know He cares

Until the next time…

Until the next time…

Until the next time…

Until the next time…

When I see you

Dating country-style…a song

LEFT THE CITY BEHIND

Four big mud tires under this truck

Doing my best yeah, to get it stuck

A whole lot of horsepower under that hood

And my baby right here yeah, she sure feels good

No pavement for miles around

Gonna find us a clear-cut and power it down

Cause my baby likes riding through the creeks and the hills

Slinging up mud yeah, spinning those wheels

Popping open cans from a cooler of beer

Friday afternoon and the weekend’s here

Tired of work and I’m over the rush

Left the city behind in a cloud of dust

Stars coming out on a beautiful night

Building a fire and it all seems right

A blanket laid out at the top of a hill

Stars in my eyes from the way she feels

Just mother nature and the two of us

No phones, no horns, no bosses to fuss

Cause my baby likes riding through the creeks and the hills

Slinging up mud yeah, spinning those wheels

Popping open cans from a cooler of beer

Friday afternoon and the weekend’s here

Tired of work and I’m over the rush

Left the city behind in a cloud of dust

Skyscrapers out here are pine trees and oaks

Taxis don’t honk but the bullfrogs croak

And music it’s made in a natural way

Cricket’s and birds and coyote’s at play

And I wouldn’t change a single thing

We’ll be back in the truck if it begins to rain

Cause my baby likes riding through the creeks and the hills

Slinging up mud, yeah spinning those wheels

Popping open cans from a cooler of beer

Friday afternoon and the weekend’s here

Tired of work and I’m over the rush

Left the city behind in a cloud of dust

Yeah, tired of work and I’m over the rush

Left the city behind in a cloud of dust

Life in Christ… a song

ETERNALLY WITH YOU

You give me hope

To see it through

My life is nothing without you

You are my God…..

You took the pain

And all my sins

Upon the cross so life begins

You are my God….

You are God

You are Jesus

You are the Father and the Son

No other comes before you

Because there is no other one

And I will praise your name forever

When this worldly life is through…

‘Cause in the end my life begins

Eternally with you….

Mathew, Luke and John are there

Still standing by your side

All the wounds you had are healed

All of you alive

And when my time has come at last

Heaven’s family

Life will only just begin

In the company I keep

You are God

You are Jesus

You are the Father and the Son

No other comes before you

Because there is no other one

And I will praise your name forever

When this worldly life is through…

‘Cause in the end my life begins

Eternally with you….

Yes in the end my life begins

Eternally with you….

You are God

You are Jesus

You are the Father and the Son

No other comes before you

Because there is no other one

And I will praise your name forever

When this worldly life is through…

‘Cause in the end my life begins…

Eternally with you….

Fred and Ginger… A lover’s poem

Fred and Ginger

Photo compliments of Mac MacAleer

FRED AND GINGER

Summer ends with all it’s splendor

Upon a beach of brilliant white

Lapping gently upon the sands

Two lovers prepare their wings for flight

Dazzling embers reflect the beauty

Like the sparkle in each other’s eyes

Tis not the end of this love story

But a true beginning as two hearts rise

Fred and Ginger how precious the moments

Caught in the images is God’s kind grace

From whence shall come these two on the morrow

Again, to dance their dance in this place

Allegory-A figure of speech in abstract… a poem

ALLEGORY

This allegory has no meaning

It has no beating of breath or heart

Within the whale was Jonah screaming

No light, unseeing, to play his part

Innsmouth Harbor how cold the water

As Lovecraft wrote of the creatures at play

Alight the village on wayward reef

While blurry-eyed monsters collect their prey

Up from the scuppers politicians who flounder

Churning and burning revealed what they are

Captured by truth those who sit in high towers

Split further the tongues as they waggle their yarn

Yet helpless are we here low in our countenance

While gazing from above spineless ravens drift by

Judging and passing sentence upon us

We who elected those feathers that fly

Numbered the days for us one and all

Unless like the captain the ship to keep sail

Staying the course lest he change his mind

What once was our heaven is now but our hell
