SURPRISE… a poem

Even though he was timid

She had captured his heart

Never had he been moved this way

He wanted her close right from the start

################

She had a way so gentle

When he touched her she moaned with delight

Cuddling was all but a given

As he would sleep with her every night

Boy in Black V-neck Shirt With Looking Straight to the Camera With a Shocking Face Expression

So, turning to his mom and dad

He begged with tears in his eyes

“Please, oh please, can I have this sweet puppy?”
“Of course!  It’s your birthday surprise!”

APRICOT LULLABY… a poem

An apricot lullaby

Mesmerizing and deep

Cleansing my mind

As I’m falling asleep

Wrapped in the arms

Of my mother’s sweet love

Drifting away

On the wings of a dove

Moon, Moonlight, Dream World, Dream

Dreams of my father

So proud and strong

Walking the dogs

While singing a song

The morning sun rises

And to my weary eyes

I see a book on the chair

Filled with sweet lullaby’s

PRECIOUSNESS… a poem

man kissing baby

Belly laugh, guffaw

Chortle, giggle and snicker

All the sounds we love

Even when they get bigger

Giggle, laugh

Cackle with mirth

Precious and small

The salt of the earth

Shrieking with pleasure

Squeal with delight

Butterfly kisses

Tuck them in tight

These are only

A few little things

Our sweet babies give us

What blessings they bring

AFTERNOON WALK… a poem

Man, Bridge, Lonely, Walk, Wintry

It’s not the same anymore

Yes, the dry, Autumn leaves still crackle underfoot

And Mother Nature plays her lullaby to her children

But I have eyes with a different view these days

Lost are these walks, hand in hand with the one I love

Gone are the days of deep conversation

And sitting upon the sun-soaked boulder

The twilight years are truly upon me

And, I miss you more than ever

This used to be our afternoon walk

Yet, the light of your eyes once full of life see no more

And I am here to make my way – alone

You are always and forever in my heart

But, a heart that is heavy and broken

Until I see you again, my love, I will miss you

HER SEASON

The last sunset to grace her eyes

Brought her tears of joy

This precious gift of life was ending

In this she had no choice

Tree, Sunset, Amazing, Beautiful

But, oh, what delight she knew

From childhood to old age

The seasons that she’d witnessed

Blessed throughout her days

***************

And as her loved ones gather ‘round

To pay their last respects

She smiles as each one kisses her

And hugs her around her neck

***************

A whisper, barely audible,

To bid them all goodbye

As her heart stops

And she smiles down

Above from where she flies

THE EMPTY ROOM… a poem

Salon, Space, Room, Interior, Style, Lost Places

Once, there was laughter and tears

Here in this now abandoned room

Memories of a life filled with love

But now it resembles a tomb

***********************

Worn down with neglect and broken hearts

Like the paint peeling off the walls

Emptiness fills the voids within

Just as it fills these halls

************************

He made a promise that he would come back

Then one fateful day came the letter

And the love of her life was gone in a flash

As she crumpled inside like a sweater

************************

Little by little her heart found strength

In the need of her sweet children’s eyes

Alas, she moved on from the bitterest song

And let go – with farewells and goodbyes
