GUIDING LIGHT… a poem

Landscape, Fire, Summer, Sommerfest

With flint in hand on this cool Autumn night

I strike a great spark and hope that it’s right

Dried out leaves, twigs and logs for a fire

To keep out the cold in a soul that is dour

And the light of this flame that will burn in the night

Guiding the forgotten and those who took flight

Bringing in all who have lost their way

With blind love and warmth at the end of the day

FIGHTER… a poem

Tear my mind away from the traps that lay within

Hold tight, steadfast and true to the belief that I have purpose

Refuge is not a place of ideology

But a place of triumph from battles fought

Wash these callused hands in the blood of my forefathers

Hold tight to the truth of their sacrifice of yesteryear

Beware, as ancestry too, has places of darkness

For rage and intolerance follow the path of their iniquities

Enlightenment dissuades the beast inside

Constraints, no matter their strength, can break

Take heart and lean into love

For only in this we shall we be victorious and find peace

Heart… a poem

This granite heart is still hardening

After all that it’s been through

Please don’t waste your time on me

There is nothing you can do

Aged and cracked and dying

My heart will ever be this way

So, keep your words and promises

For someone else – for another day

No, don’t ask to be let in

You’ll only get depressed

The ragged, jagged edges here

Will slice your love to death

How can you be so persistent – no

You can never believe in me

This heart of clay here in your hands

Now moldable and free

GOODBYES… a quick song

I remember when I was little

And I held my daddy’s hand

The memories come flooding in

So, I do the best I can

—————–

To try and hold back the tears

As I say my last goodbyes

Feeling the swelling of my heart

That’s spilling from my eyes

——————

You see, daddy always loved me

And I always knew it was true

And that is why, my little one

I always say – I love you

——————-

And there’ll come a time someday

When you will be standing where I do

Holding the hand of your little one

And saying – I love you, too

Yeah, holding the hand of your little one

And saying – I love you, too

RAINBOW… a poem of reflection

I have been the rainbow of yesteryear
Peaking only with the misty spray of the ocean breeze
Across the crevices of boulders scattered early in my life.
I have been the rainbow of my yesterday
Reaching over a mountain range of memories
Only to be lost amidst the cacophony on the other side.
I am a rainbow in the now
Doubled by the beauty of my reflection
Seen in the love of my life, full of conformation and joy.

MOONLIGHT… a short song

Why can’t the stars all come down from the night?
Clearing the cobwebs and making it bright.
And, where is the hero I promised to be?
Lost in whirlwind I tread cautiously.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll be washed by the rain
Removing this heartache
Removing this pain
And I never dreamed that I’d be here alone…
Yeah, I’ll keep on living…
And you’ll still be gone.

Moonlight it still shines there - down on the sands.
The memory is etched of us still holding hands.
And mountain tops glisten too peaked with their snow.
A lifetime is fading from years long ago.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll be washed by the rain
Removing this heartache
Removing this pain
And I never dreamed that I’d be here alone…
Yeah, I’ll keep on living…
And you’ll still be gone.
