NIGHTMARE… a dark poem

girl in white long sleeve shirt lying on dried leaves

I cast out the blue demons deep into the night

Yet their shadows continue to haunt me

How do I escape these unworldly specters

While even now they fall around me in silhouettes

How I pray for the light to chase the unseen away

How I beg in a guttural growl to be set free

Then, and only then, did I awake from this nightmare

Abstract Painting Story/Poetry Contest

Hello my wonderful, talented WordPress family!

As I have continued my struggle to write on any kind of regular basis I had a thought… Start a contest! I will post a couple of my abstract paintings and see what kind of response I get with micro-fiction or poetry using one of the paintings below as the subject.

As an added bonus I will give away each painting to the winner that I and my small team choose. (Any ideas or volunteers to help judge would be great. You would obviously not be in the contest.)

Rules:

  1. Choose one painting to write about.
    1. Microfiction – 300 or less
    2. Poetry – Comparative to length of microfiction (Nothing real long, please!)
  2. Submit back as a response to this post.
  3. Post copy of painting with your submission.
  4. Winners will be determined after the contest is closed on Dec. 31st. The winners and their submissions will be presented in a new post.
  5. I will acquire the address for the winner and send the paintings out in January.

A HEAVENLY TUNE… a poem

galaxy wallpaper

I sing into the wind

I hope it carries my happy tune

Sailing through the atmosphere

Up and around the moon

Dancing upon the eather

Picking up speed among the stars

Winking as the words set sail

Coercing a smile from Mars

Far out into the Milky Way

Where celestial music blends

Angels take up the chorus

And now my journey has found its end

BEREFT… micro story

His chest felt like it was sinking, untethered to anything, so too did his broken heart. Tears flowed in unfettered streams down his cheeks wetting his shirt. Sunlight glistened like tendrils of silver flecks within each drop. As for his heart… It was bereft of the only love it ever knew.

ROCK BOTTOM… a very short story

And then I hit rock bottom… I thought to myself, if not aloud, “This is it! I’m all washed up and literally on rock bottom. Things in life cannot get any worse! All the work… all my life… and now, rock bottom. I guess that’s it! Nothing to do but… Ooo, that’s cool! It kind of looks like a fossil or something! I wonder if there are anymore around here. There’s another one! Wow! Who knew rock bottom could hold so much promise? Huh!”

The End

PIRATES… micro-fiction

Somewhere, over the horizon,

We know he is still free.

What a comfort it is for those

He left behind.

Sorrow?  Nope!

We celebrate in returning a life

That should have never been held captive.

Pirates don’t need a dry cell.

Pirates need the open sea!
