I sit here and watch the other kids play
Another short night
Another long day
But I don’t feel sorry for myself anymore
I discovered books
And began to explore
From little kids flying
Holding each other’s hands
To a far away place
That they called Neverland
And a giant white whale
Far out at sea
With a man who would kill it
To be who he’d be
Late at night there’s a knocking
Upon someone’s door
Could it be The Raven
No, “’tis the wind and nothing more”
So, please don’t feel sorry
I’m as happy little guy
My legs may not work
But my limit is the sky
Ah, the greatness of being a reader! I need to make more time for books again!!

The immense power of books! Excellent poem, Kevin. There are so many of us who were/are nurtured, supported, encouraged, empowered, and freed through reading. 🙂

Beautiful poem, Kevin! I’m guilty of not exploring that imagination by reading.

I don’t read as much as I should, but my wife reads enough for both of us… Ha ;-)))

That’s great! You’re lucky, Kevin. My husband distracts me with good movies and tv series. Hahaha

I have to feel sorry for any kid who has to read Moby Dick, to be honest.

There is an underlying sweetness of a child’s imagination, with or without “challenges” isn’t there? Thank you, Liz! When I saw the bear I thought it was perfect. ;-)))
