THE RESTLESS NIGHT

In the dark they’re sneaking creeping

In the dark they lie in wait

In the dark while you are sleeping,

Subtle sound… you’re now awake

In the darkness eyes are spying

In the darkness setting traps

In the darkness restless lying,

Tick-tick-tick as time unwraps

In the night of stillness falling

In the night of groaning walls

In the night imagination,

Phantoms sweeping down the halls

Just before the sun arises

Just before the break of dawn

Just before the Nox¹ disguises

All is lost…all is gone

¹Nox – Roman goddess of night; daughter of Erebus.
